If you are using AT&T for your Mobile service as we have in the past at JHB, we want to help you avoid a mistake we made; purchasing one of their individual cell phone insurance plans. It is a not just a waste of money but a total rip off!
When we signed with AT&T for my company’s cell service and phones, I opted for the insurance on the individual phone instruments, which seemed very reasonable at a rate of about $7/month. When my six month old Blackberry developed a crack in the casing after it was dropped, I called AT&T about filing a claim through the insurance. They informed me there would be no problem filing the claim and getting a replacement but there was a deductible. No problem, I thought, because I expected that I might have to pay a small, reasonable deductible of maybe $25 or $50. Boy was I wrong! The deductible instead was TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS! However if I wanted to sign up for their service for another 2 years…yes, you know the routine…I could get a new phone that way….
Two things that I have learned from this experience ; 1)Don’t take AT&T’s cell phone insurance plans- are a total scam 2) Next time AT&T cries for less regulation from Congress or the legislature in my home state of Florida I intend to write my representatives and insist that they push for MORE regulation – not less!
